14th Annual Christmas Walk

A Week Full of Activities

Friday, December 2nd marks the 14th Annual Christmas Walk in beautiful downtown Newaygo from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  The evening starts in Brooks Park with an opening ceremony, the lighting of the "Tree of Hope" and the Newaygo High School Band playing.  You can then enjoy a relaxing carriage ride, listen to Christmas Carolers, sample some roasted chestnuts, visit the Library to buy their wonderful Christmas Cookie tins, warm up at the warming fire and patronize the many businesses downtown.  There will be a community candlelight caroling procession assembling at the United Methodist Church at 8:00 pm (bring two candles, one to share).  The United Methodist Church will be having a soup supper from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and the Family of God Church will be serving up a burrito dinner from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm.  The Family of God Church also has several other activities going on as well.  Don't forget to enter the Christmas Stocking Contest at the New Ewe downtown and be sure to visit the Newaygo Area Chamber of Commerce Photo Competion exhibit (located at the United Methodist Church).  The display will be available for viewing on Thursday, December 1st (noon - 6:00 pm), Friday, December 2nd (11:00 am - 9:00 pm) and Saturday, December 3rd (9:00 am - 3:00 pm) and is sponsored by The Women's Business Owners of Newaygo. 

For those pets who want to visit Santa and get their picture taken with him, they can stop by Newaygo Veterinary, P.C., located on Mason Drive, on Tuesday, November 29th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm!

The Newaygo Area Chamber of Commerce will be holding their Annual Holiday Celebration Fundraiser on Thursday, December 1st at Loomis Lodge (136 Croton Rd.).  This is the "Social Event of the Holiday Season"!  This year's festivities will include a live auction, silent auctions, tin can raffles, a 50/50 raffle and a blitz raffle - something for everyone!  Tickets are $25 per person in advance or $30 at the door and include drinks and hors d'oeuvres.  Social hour begins at 6:00 pm with the live auction starting at 7:00 pm.  This year 50% of the proceeds will go to Love, Inc.  Please contact the Chamber at 652.3068 for ticket and more information, but hurry seating is limited!

Saturday, December 3rd is the ChoiceOne Bank Saint Nick Kick.  This 5K walk, 5K and 10K run will take off at 10:00 am in the parking lot in front of Pamida at 91 W. Pine Lake Drive.  This event gets bigger and better each year so contact the Chamber office at 652.3068 for more information or go on their website at www.newaygonaturally.com for an entry application.
 

~Santa Express~

Santa Claus will be coming to Newaygo on the Santa Express, Saturday, December 10th!  For the sixth year, Marquette Rail will be bringing Santa and Mrs. Claus to communites along its line, where they will hand out candy to good girls and boys from the Santa Express.  Children (and adults) of all ages are welcome!  This year Marquette Rail has partnered with Jim Nickelson's Christmas Trees of Ludington and Millers Produce of Manistee to help distribute trees at each stop to lucky drawing winners.  The Santa Express will be stopping in Newaygo at River Street Crossing from approximately 12:10 pm to 12:30 pm.  For more information, contact Marquette Rail at 1-866-RAIL-911.
